Flyp is a new iOS/Android app that allows users to have up to six phone numbers active on their smartphones. The first phone number is free and each additional phone number costs $2.99 a month to maintain. The numbers are real phone numbers, no VoIP and no forwarding.
Flyp will manage all numbers, voicemails, texts, and notifications. The goal of the app is to give people options for how they control the inflow of their conversations. The app gives people the ability to have separate phone numbers that they can give out to work contacts, family contacts, school contacts, and so on. The app also features the ability to allows users to control who contacts them and when; for example you can put your phone on do not disturb for work contacts but leave your family number open to receive calls.
Unlike apps such as Burner or Hushed, Flyp phone numbers are not disposable but instead are permanent (as long as you pay the bill to keep the number active.) Flyp seems to be quite similar to Google Voice, which many people use to create a proxy number in order to manage a large volume of incoming calls.
At launch Flyp will have Quick Reply Text Messages similar to Android’s Quick Responses but will not have a voicemail to text transcription feature. Current limitations of Flyp are that you cannot customize your voicemail and you cannot customize quick reply messages. However, at under $3 a month to maintain Flyp certainly seems like a good option for those needing another phone number.
