This past week Microsoft confirmed that Windows 10 will launch this summer in 190 countires. Although an exact release date for the new platform has not been announced by Microsoft, it is safe to say that whenever the product is released it will be the talk of the tech world.
In January Microsoft announced that for one year they would offer free upgrades to Windows 10 for those running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1. This past week they also announced that the free upgrades of Windows 10 will be available to all non-genuine copies of Windows software in an attempt to cut down on piracy in China, where over 75% of people use pirated programs. Microsoft hopes this move will allow users to realize the value of properly licensed software and in the future steer them towards purchasing legitimate copies. The company will be working Lenovo, Qihoo 360, and Tencent Holdings to facilitate the Windows 10 rollout in China.
Microsoft is also currently working with Android phone company Xiaomi by giving select owners of the Mi 4 and opportunity to test drive Windows 10 and make suggestions prior to its summer release. Both Xiaomi and Microsoft have remained vague on the exact details of their partnership but it could provide a fascinating indication of future plans for Windows 10 and mobile devices.
